Packer Butte (6,020 feet)

Trip Report (4/27/2002):
For such a short ascent and only being a "Butte", this sure was an enjoyable hike. I hit it about 6:00 AM and was rewarded with an excellent sunrise. The view of the Camas Prarie was excellent, as was the view north of the Trinity Mountains, Little Camas Reservoir, etc... Also, I am not sure why it is called a butte, as the top is tiny, with a large cairn and cross-like structure. If you are in the Cat Creek area and have an hour to kill, do this one.

Elevation Gain: 600 feet
Class (difficulty): 2

Directions:
From Boise, head towards Fairfield. About 2 miles past the turnoff for the Castle Rocks, ID 20, makes a bank east towards Cat Creek Summit. Go straight on the dirt road at this point. Follow the road for just under a mile to a fork. Park somewhere in this vicinity.

Route:
Hike east and straight up Packer Butte.
