Phi Kappa Mountain (10,516 feet) & Summit Creek Peak (10,585)

Phi Kappa Mountain from about 1/2 a mile away.

Trip Report (7/5/2003):
After a rough day on Church and Donaldson, Zach and I decided to chill a little and do Phi Kappa Mountain and maybe Summit Creek Peak (Peak 10585). This turned out to be a pleasant climb, with exceptional views of the larger Pioneer mountains and even the Lost River range to the east.

Trip stats:
Time: 5 hours (3.5 up, 1.5 down)
Length: 7.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 3100 feet
Class (difficulty): 2

Directions:
We drove to Trail Creek summit and parked at the parking lot of the south side of the road.

Route:
We followed the Summit Creek trail southwesterly for about 2.25 miles, then bushwhacked up to the saddle between Phi Kappa and Peak 10585. The terrain was very condusive to quick and painless travel. From the saddle we tagged Phi Kappa, then descended back to the saddle and up to Peak 10585. From there, we dropped straight off the face to the trail and creek below. This was steep, but the talus is very manageable.
