Trip Report

I was in San Francisco for a conference. The conference ended at noon and my flight left at 4pm. I had seen a peak between San Francisco and South San Francisco. I looked online and saw that it was named San Bruno Mountain and had a nice trail to the top. With 2 hours to kill, I decided what the heck, I will do it.

San Bruno Mountain is a long ridge. It has over 1000' of prominence, and like most of the peaks on this trip, it unfortunately had a road to the top. Oh well, the weather is nice and I am getting to hike.

I changed from my business attire in the parking lot and then headed up the trail. It was warm and I enjoyed the trail, which started out in trees, then in brush, before arriving at the summit.

The summit is covered by towers, but does command exceptional views of the bay area. I could see both Mount Tamalpais and Mount Diablo, which I had ascended earlier in the week.

After a brief time on top, I headed down the same trail (for ease) and then off to the airport.

Getting There

From Highway 101, take the Bayshore Boulavard/Brisbane exit. Continue on Bayshore Boulavard to Guadalupe Canyon Parkway. Turn west on Guadalupe Canyon Parkway toward the Mountain and go to the park entrance.

I went past the initial parking area (just past the pay area) with bathrooms and picnic tables. A 1/4 of a mile later I saw a sign with a trail marked "Summit Loop 3.1" on it. I followed that nice trail to the summit.

Hiking Directions

Just follow the well signed "Summit Loop" trail to the road at the top. Follow the road to the top.
