Trip Report

Cheyenne Mountain sits next to Lone Mountain on the west side of Las Vegas. Cheyenne is bigger and prettier than Lone, but not nearly as popular. I drove to the park on the East Side of the peak and parked at a small park named Gilmore Cliff Shadows at the western end of Alexander Road.

There are some steep gullies and terrain on the east side of the peak, but heading nearly directly up a rib (between 2 gullies) on the east side of the peak served me well.

The north ridge of the peak is pretty fun, with large drop-offs on the west side of the ridge.

The top sports great views of the Red Rocks area and the entire Las Vegas Valley.

I did a little extra celebrating on this peak, as it was my 500th peak!

Getting There

Make your way to the "park" named Gilmore Cliff Shadows. This park is at the western end of Alexander Road, just west of the intersection of Cliff Shadows Parkway and Alexander Street.

Hiking Directions

From the parking lot, head southwest. I crossed 2 creek beds, then got to the base of the peak. I then followed a rocky rib that led to the ridge just north of Cheyenne Mountain. This is the rib with a major gully to it's left (south).

Once you meet up with the north ridge, simply turn south and follow it to the summit.
