Zach wanted to get out, but I needed to be in Hailey Sunday night and I needed to head through Twin Falls to run a few errands. Zach gracsiously agreed to drive seperate.

So up we headed in the dawn hours. Once we hit Twin Falls we jumped into my rig and headed to the Goose Creek Mountains with the sun coming up and displaying partly cloudy skies.

The temperature at the trailhead was 22 degrees. We started up the road at a brisk pace, making great time on the groomed terrain. We didn't hit unpacked snow until we started up a short, steep section to gain a ridge heading west to the peak. Here we encountered some snow with a thick ice layer on top, but sugar underneath. It wasn't horrible.

Once on the ridge, the wind picked up a bit. It windy, but certainly manageable.

We made it to the summit in about 3 hours. The summit had decent views of Cache Peak and Mount Harrison. The better views to be had were of the Magic Valley and to the west toward the Jarbidge range.

All in all, a nice day in the mountains... despite the peak being somewhat how-hum.

Take Rock Creek Canyon Road heading south out of Hansen, Idaho. Follow the road for approximatley 27 miles. Just before the ski lodge for the Magic Mountain Ski Area, look for a plowed lot on the right hand side of the road.

From the parking lot, start following the groomed road. The road eventually leads to a housing area. Just past this housing area, Zach and I left the road on a signed ski/snowshoe trail and followed it about 1/2 a mile and then took a ridge heading off toward Mountain View Peak. This detour off the road saved us valuable mileage. Once back on the north/south ridgeline that connects to Mountain View Peak, we turned north and again followed the road to the summit.
