Shares Snout is a small peak south of Marsing, Idaho in the Owyhee Range of Idaho. While the peak isn't really dominant from any roads or high in elevation, it does have some benefits... First, if you are looking for a quick peak to get to the top of; Shares Snout provides that. It is only an hour drive from Boise and the road gets you to within 400 feet of the top. Second, the last 50' of the peak is a very fun and challenging scramble!

We parked off the nice Coyote Grade Road, just north of the peak. We simply made a beeline for the ridge just east of the summit. We then followed that ridge to the summit. The last 50 feet of the climb get rocky and steep, with a very enjoyable scramble to the summit.

It was a cloudy day, so the views were not ideal, but the summit surprised us with very vast views. We could see the Trinity and Boise ranges, the Snake River, Lake Lowell, and a huge swath of the Treasure Valley.

This is a very fun peak to get out on a weekend afternoon and stretch the legs.

From Idaho 78, turn south onto Clark Road. Clark Road crosses some flats and leads to the base of the hills. Turn right onto Coyote Grade Road (at one point there was a sign for "Rats Nest"... take that right turn). Follow Coyote Grade Road to the flat area just north of the peak.

Tip! Google Maps led us right to our parking spot by typing in Shares Snout.

Coyote Grade Road is in pretty good shape, though it probably gets slick after rain as it is clay based in several spots. Other than rutted, it is fairly smooth and rock-free.
