Trip Report

I hadn't really heard much about Tower Mountain, but the hike blew me away, so hence the trip report!

Tower Mountain is located above the town of Silverton and sports over 1600 feet of prominence. We climbed the peak from Velocity Basin. Lake beautiful lake in Velocity Basin, below Storm Peak, is worth the trip alone. There is a decent trail that leaves the end of the road and heads northeast up the grass/flower covered slopes. The trail is faint in spots, so we pretty much just made a b-line for the ridge north of Tower Mountain. Here the trail is more pronounced and will get you to the saddle between East Storm (13325 on the topo) and Tower Mountain. Follow the use trail and easy tundra slopes to the top of Tower Mountain.

From the top of Tower Mountain, the San Juan views are stunning! Hematite Basin and Lake are just below you and are quite attractive.

Reverse course on descent.

The flowers, green, rugged mountain and blue lakes make this an excellent hike!

Getting There

Instead of turn-by-turn, here is what we searched for in Google Maps and it led us right to the trailhead:
Velocity Basin, Silverton, CO

This road is in pretty good shape, I have seen sedans at the trailhead. That said, there are a few places where it is rocky, so have good tires at least.
